The Clearfield® CraftSmart® Splice Closure (CSC) is a rugged, field-friendly dome closure built for maximum versatility and proven long-term reliability in any outside plant environment. Available in three distinct sizes (CSC 250, CSC 500, CSC 750), it gives installers the right capacity for everything from low-fiber-count taps to mid- and high-count splice locations.
Its innovative interchangeable gel-block sealing system eliminates heat shrink and special tools while supporting everything from large express feeds to high drop counts. Built for real-world deployments (aerial, pedestal, handhole, manhole, or direct-buried to 5 meters), CraftSmart delivers GR-771-CORE performance with details crews actually appreciate: an included Multi-Tool, pre-installed flex basket, and easy-access splice trays that make every job faster and cleaner.

The CraftSmart Splice Closure family includes three environmentally sealed dome closures designed for aerial, pedestal, handhole, manhole, and direct-bury (up to 5 meters) applications. All sizes share the same craft-friendly architecture and gel-block cable entry system that provides robust, reusable sealing without heat shrink, epoxy, or cure time.
- CSC 250 – Compact model with two gel-block ports
- CSC 500 & CSC 750 – Larger models with three gel-block ports for increased splice capacity and slack storage
Gel Block Options
- Standard red gel blocks (included with every closure) – support cables 0.12 in. –0.90 in. (3 mm–22.9 mm) and up to 8 drops per gel block
- Optional blue drop gel blocks – increase capacity to 16 flat drops or 24 round drops per gel block – supports cables 0.12 in.–0.50 in. (3 mm–12.8 mm)
Every closure ships fully equipped and ready to deploy with:
- Multi-Cable Insert Kits, strength-member brackets, and hose clamps
- Pre-installed flex slack storage basket
- Hinge-and-stack splice trays with controlled bend-radius routing
- Exclusive CraftSmart Closure Multi-Tool that removes trays and props them vertically for unobstructed access to lower trays
The gel-block system is completely interchangeable across all three sizes, allowing technicians to adapt to changing project requirements with minimal additional parts. Tested and certified to Telcordia GR-771-CORE and RoHS compliant, CraftSmart closures deliver trusted IP68-level protection and fire-retardant performance in the harshest environments.

- Bench clamp fixture accessory attaches directly to a work table and is offered in one size with an insert which supports all three closure sizes, making it easier for technicians to splice utilizing the stable base.
- Optional mounting kits, including (1) aerial strand and (1) pole, compatible across the closure line
