clocks

October is a month marked by very noticeable changes. Fall foliage notwithstanding, one of the biggest changes happens at the end of this week: the end of Daylight Savings Time. On November 3rd, we gain an extra hour to do with what we will.

Have you thought about what you are going to do with that extra hour? Some of you will use it to catch an extra hour of sleep. Others will go for a jog. Or read a good book. Or balance the checkbook. Or just spend some extra time with loved ones, either in person, on the phone or online.

Interestingly enough, after the spring transition to Daylight Savings Time every year, there is an increase in car accidents, heart attacks and injuries on the job. But after we turn the clocks back, there’s actually a decrease in heart attacks and car accidents.

Physicians typically attribute this to the power of sleep. I also think it’s a testament to the power of taking a moment to do something positive that feeds your soul and fuels your energy.

You’ve got an hour. Go for it.
