The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model was introduced in 1984 and defines internetworking in terms of a seven layer stack. It serves as a practical framework for key network technologies like Ethernet and IP.
The 7 layers are:
Layer 7 – Application
Layer 6 – Presentation
Layer 5 – Session
Layer 4 – Transport
Layer 3 – Network
Layer 2 – Data Link
Layer 1 – Physical
